Sugary Drinks and Taxes

I can't believe the commercial that I saw just yesterday attacking the tax on sugary drinks such as soda pop.

A Mom was unloading her groceries and she was talking about the impending tax on pop and she was very upset that the economy is so horrible how is the average family supposed to fee their family when they impose taxes like these.

My question to her is, "why are you feeding your family those sorts of things?". Every one knows the detriment that soda pop is on a healthy body.

The problem is that a can of pop contains over 100 calories. The calories have to be cut from some place else or they are just added to the caloric intake for the day. In addition to that the sedentary life that some people lead along with the increase of calories from soda pop leads to Obesity and that is the number one problem facing our country today.

Obesity is raising at an alarming rate and the diseases that are causes by obesity are costing us a fortune weather you are healthy or not.

I realize how taxes go, they rarely seem to go to the places that politicians say they will or at least they don't seem to. (I won't go into examples right now).

The cost of Obesity needs to be in the hands of the people consuming products with a direct link to the issue. We will all still continue paying but it will put just a little more of the burden on consumers.

I'm sure the 3 or 4 cents a can is not going to keep this Mom from getting her family the Soda Pop it needs.
